Pari Collis
Pari Collins reveals how a STEM Ambassador had a positive impact on the school's Manning a Moon exhibition.
Please describe the activity carried out by the Ambassador
Manning a Moon exhibition which was organised to complement a Year 7 parents evening, and to talk to parents and students about the moon, space in general and working in Science/Engineering. Five year 11 students were also on hand to help! The Ambassador had organised leaflets about engineering careers for parents and students to pick up.
Do you feel that the Ambassador had a positive impact on the pupils? If so please describe how.
Year 7 parents and students spoke to the Ambassador and asked questions about the Moon. All the Year 11 helpers stayed for the whole duration of the event which they probably would not have otherwise. They really enjoyed chatting to the Ambassador and I noticed their behaviour was more mature.
Do you have any useful tips for other teachers on how to plan activities with Ambassadors?
Be clear about what your expectations are.
Any future plans for more STEM Ambassasdor involvement
Definitely we are planning a glider day and a wind turbine day for next year and I very much hope to get Ambassadors involved.
