How to get involved

How you choose to get involved depends on your industry, your locality, your company priorities etc.  One way to get involved is to support the Science and Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) Programme, STEMNET’s national flagship programme, by encouraging your employees to volunteer to be Ambassadors.

Ambassadors are individuals from a wide variety of STEM backgrounds, from across the UK, who offer their time and expertise to help schools inspire young people.  These individuals act as invaluable role models to students, through the work they do in schools.  All Ambassadors involved in the programme come from a broad spectrum of STEM disciplines and careers.  And it’s not just the students that benefit – it’s also a great opportunity for individuals in your organisation to further develop their communication, presentation and planning skills.

For more information on the SEAs and for information on other organisations that support the programme, see the Science and Engineering Ambassadors section.

There are many other ways to work with and support regional and local education:

  • Support a school science, technology, engineering or maths Club.
  • Provide industry input into a science or technology project.
  • Host industry visits and placements for students and teahcers.
  • Provide equipment and funding for workshops, challenges and competitions.
  • Partner with a school and support a STEM Access Grant – funding specifically aimed at engaging pupils from Black and Minority Ethnic groups in STEM activity.
