“Many of the teachers in our science department do not have industrial or research experience themselves, so meeting, STEM Ambassadors, working in engineering and science fields has helped them to broaden their knowledge. They will now be better equipped to talk to our students about science-based careers.”
Gerry Courtney, Assistant Headteacher, Plashet School
Secondary Schools and Sixth Forms
STEMNET has links with all state maintained secondary schools across the UK and helps young people and their teachers access a range of STEM E&E opportunities including STEM Clubs, links with STEM Ambassadors and activities featured in the STEM Directories.
STEMNET is a national charity, operating a regional network, so that you can access the free services, advice and support that are local to your school and pupils.
Schools STEM Advisory Network
As a teacher, you can access STEMNET’s Schools STEM Advisory Network (SSAN) to get free advice on STEM E&E. Our local experts will provide you with impartial, tailored advice and assistance, including information and guidance on STEM initiatives, resources and projects, professional development and training opportunities. Our SSAN also facilitates relationship-building with other schools, local universities and STEM-related industries.
As a teacher, you can access support from thousands of volunteers with STEM backgrounds through the STEM Ambassadors programme.
STEMNET manages this national network of enthusiastic and inspiring role models, who can help you to excite and encourage students in STEM.
All STEM Ambassadors have a STEM background, they are usually professionals and specialists in their field, providing you with a free, skilled resource, to support you in the classroom.
Each STEM Ambassador is registered, trained and checked with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland or the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in Scotland.
Our local network can help determine how your school can most benefit from involvement with a STEM Ambassador and match your school or activity to the right volunteer for your requirements.

STEM Clubs are a fun, rewarding way to boost enjoyment and learning across STEM outside of the classroom. STEMNET can provide guidance and support on setting up a Club or developing an established one. We offer free, impartial, locally-targeted advice on activities, resources, support and funding opportunities and we can help you, as the Club leaders to link with volunteer STEM Ambassadors to enhance club activities.
