“Many of the teachers in our science department do not have industrial or research experience themselves, so meeting, STEM Ambassadors, working in engineering and science fields has helped them to broaden their knowledge. They will now be better equipped to talk to our students about science-based careers.”
Gerry Courtney, Assistant Headteacher, Plashet School
We support ‘Your Life’
Your Life is a campaign that brings together employers and educators to show how maths and science lead to exciting, successful careers. It particularly aims to encourage women to make science, technology and engineering subject and career choices.
Within the next three years, the Your Life campaign aims to increase the number of students taking A-level maths and physics by 50%, ensuring tens of thousands more students are able to take degrees in science, maths, and engineering, and get jobs in these fields.
More than 180 organisations across the UK have already pledged action to boost the role of women in science and engineering through the Your Life Call to Action.
Many organisations have also pledged to support our work through this campaign, including Balfour Beatty, Dow UK and GE who have all committed to recruit hundreds of new STEM Ambassadors – volunteers who do activities to inspire young people in STEM subjects and careers. Other organisations involved in the campaign that support our work include:
Barking and Dagenham College
Careers Academies UK
Centre of the Cell
Food and Drink Federation
Johnson & Johnson
National Nuclear Laboratory
St Helens College
Thames Tideway Tunnel
The Met Office
University of Manchester
